Jungfrau

The Jungfrau (German: "maiden/virgin") is one of the main summits in the Bernese Alps, situated between the cantons of Valais and Bern in Switzerland. Together with the Eiger and Mönch, the Jungfrau forms a massive wall overlooking the Bernese Oberland and is considered one of the most emblematic sights of the Swiss Alps.

The construction of the Jungfraujoch railway east of the summit in the early 20th century made the area one of the most-visited places in the Alps. Along with the Aletsch Glacier to the south, the Jungfrau is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2001.

El Jugfrau (alemán: "la virgen") es uno de los picos más importantes del los Alpes Berneses, siduado entre los cantones de Valais y Berna en Suiza. Junto al Eiger y el Mönch, el Jungfrau conforma una pared montañosa masiva en el Oberland bernés y es considerado una de las vistas más emblemáticas de los Alpes suizos.

La construcción del ferrocarril Jungfraujoch al este del pico a inicios del siglo XX convirtió al lugar en una de las zonas más visitadas de los Alpes. Junto con el glaciar Aletsch al sur, el Jungfrau es parte del Área Protegida Jungfrau-Aletsch, que fue declarada como Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 2001.
