This is a nice postcard from Prague, Czech Republic, showing the Charles Bridge.

The Charles Bridge is a famous historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century.

The bridge is 621 m long and nearly 10 m wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and the third one on the Old Town side. The Old Town bridge tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, originally erected around 1700 but now all replaced by replicas.

The plaque on the statue of John of Nepomuk has been polished to a shine by countless people having touched it over the centuries. Touching the falling priest on the plaque is supposed to bring good luck and ensure your return to Prague. I hope this legend is true, because I touched the plaque when I went to Prague, I just don't know if it was the right person.

El Puente de Carlos es un puente histórico famoso que cruza el río Vltava en Praga. Su construcción comenzó en 1375 bajo el auspicio del Rey Carlos IV, y terminó al inicio del siglo XV.

El puente mide 621 m de largo y casi 10 m de ancho, soportado por 16 arcos. Está protegido por tres torres, dos de ellas en Malá Strana y la otra en el lado de la Ciudad Vieja. Esta última es considerada usualmente como la construcción civil de estilo gótico más impresionante del mundo. El puente está decorado por un pasillo continuo de 30 estatuas y estatuarios, la mayoría de ellos de estilo barroco, originalmente erigidos al rededor de 1700, pero ahora todos reemplazados por réplicas.

La placa en la estatua de Juan Nepomuceno ha sido pulida hasta brillar por haber sido tocada por muchas personas durante siglos. Se supone que si tocas al sacerdote que cae en la placa tendrás buena suerte y te asegura un retorno a Praga. Espero que sea cierto, porque yo toqué la placa cuando anduve por allá. Espero regresar. Lo que no sé es si toqué a la persona correcta :/
